The potential maximun hull speed of a canoe is directly related to the square of its waterline length. cut 18" off the stern of the canoe and you have severely altered its waterline length and decreased its maximum hull speed. paddling efficiency/turbulence this problem is tied in with the above problem of decreased waterline length..
