In this video i show you how to plastic weld a 3/4 inch long hole in a kayak. i test it by beating it with a ball peen hammer and it doesn't fail!. Sit-on-top & sit-inside kayak. pedal & motorized kayaks. ~ when doing the repair, make sure that the edges of both the patch and the hole get hot enough that they actually melt and you can mix them together. ~ you can smooth down your repair with the tip of welder, similar to how the hot spoon is used in this instructable. don't use a sander..
Paul’s repair method involves removing a few feet of deck from the hull instead of the more traditional method of working through access holes. his method requires more cosmetic work to complete the repair, but access to the damaged area is much better. to complete a similar repair, begin by removing the damaged hull.. I came across a free canoe from a friend but it had some nice size holes on the bottom of it. i ran some google searches and the promising research i discovered brought me to polyvance. i emailed my concern to polyvance and not only was the answer "yes we can fix that" but the response time was within hours.. Would buy another if hobie would build it. top sikaflex might work the way you describe working with it, it takes forever to cure, tho, which might cause a hole on the top of the repair since it will flow down--sikaflex doesn't stick to hdpe, tho. but haven't tried a hdpe repair yet-- but their website shows a picture of a plastic kayak.
